The IS Job Index summarizes IS jobs, salaries, industries, demographics, knowledge, and resource use from more than 1600+ students across the United States. The 2015 index broke new ground in professional quality and associated website, as well as dissemination. More than 5000 postcards and 1600 print reports were distributed to deans, senior executives, and academics. To-date isjobindex.com has received more than 7,000 unique views, and the full report has been downloaded more than 1,000 times. A high quality poster was distributed at the Americas Conferences on Information Systems (AMCIS) and the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and several of the participating US schools created branded postcards. All of this activity promotes the IS field and gets the word out about how well we are doing!
More than 30 schools participated in 2013, again in 2015, and will participate in 2017 including: Arizona State, Baruch College, Boston College, Carnegie Mellon, Clemson, Florida International, Georgia State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, San Jose State, University of Alabama, University of Arizona, University of Arkansas, University of Colorado-Denver, University of Connecticut, University of Dayton, University of Georgia, University of Memphis, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas, Austin, University of Texas, Dallas, Temple and others.
How to participate and benefits
Participation is open to 4 year U.S universities that offer an information systems major. To request participation, please send an email to Munir Mandviwalla at firstname.lastname@example.org. There is a $495 fee (same as 2015) collected and managed by the Association for Information Systems (AIS). Benefits include:
- Participation and featured in the report (new: school logo featured on national map)
- Custom excel file of your school’s raw data so you can compare against the national numbers
- $200 is returned as $10 amazon gift cards to the first 20 students from your school
- Three copies of the full-color print report
- (optional) Custom branded postcard to promote your program
The reason for the modest fee, even though there is financial support from Temple University’s Institute for Business and Information Technology and AIS, is because the project is very labor intensive including data collection, tabulation, analysis, custom reports for each school, professional design, printing and mailing. The fee allows us to make the full report available on this site for free and to produce the print report for wide distribution.
Global IS Job Index
The long term plan is to publish a global IS Job Index. However, accomplishing this goal will require regional customization. If you are interested in helping expand the IS Job Index globally and can bring resources to the project, please contact Munir Mandviwalla at email@example.com.
